Generic Name: Ventolin
What is Ventolin?
Approximately 94 percent of the dose is recovered in the urine and feces as enalaprilat or enalapril. The principal components in urine are enalaprilat, accounting for about 40 percent of the dose, and intact enalapril. There is no evidence of metabolites of enalapril, other than enalaprilat.
The serum concentration profile of enalaprilat exhibits a prolonged terminal phase, apparently representing a small fraction of the administered dose that has been bound to ACE.
The amount bound does not increase with dose, indicating a saturable site of binding. The effective half-life for accumulation of enalaprilat following multiple doses of enalapril maleate is 11 hours.
Multiple doses of enalapril maleate in rats do not result in accumulation in any tissues. Milk of lactating rats contains radioactivity following administration of 14Cenalapril maleate. Radioactivity was found to cross the placenta following administration of labeled drug to pregnant hamsters.
Administration of VASOTEC to patients with hypertension of severity ranging from mild to severe results in a reduction of both supine and standing blood pressure usually with no orthostatic component.
Symptomatic postural hypotension is therefore infrequent, although it might be anticipated in volume-depleted patients see WARNINGS. In most patients studied, after oral administration of a single dose of enalapril, onset of antihypertensive activity was seen at one hour with peak reduction of blood pressure achieved by four to six hours.
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of this medicine. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:It is very important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits to make sure this medicine is working properly. How should I take Ventolin?
Next Page:What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking enalapril Vasotec. Enalapril, sold under the brand name Vasotec among others, is a medication used to treat high blood pressure, diabetic kidney disease, and heart failure. Onset of effects are typically within an hour when taken by mouth and last for up to day. Serious side effects include angioedema and low blood pressure. Use during pregnancy is believed to result in harm to the baby. Enalapril is in the angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor ACEi family of medications.
Some evidence suggests it will cause injury and death to a developing fetus. Patients are advised not to become pregnant while taking enalapril and to notify their doctors immediately if they become pregnant.
What should I avoid while taking Ventolin?
Long-term use of ACE inhibitors can improve heart and kidney function, though there can be side effects. Common side effects include dry cough, mild skin rashes, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. More-serious side effects can occur, including angioedema, which has symptoms including rapid swelling of the lips, eyes, face or throat, raised welts, and difficulty breathing. A: Enalapril is one of the first line medications that is used for primary hypertension or high blood pressure.
I am assuming that you have used it for 3 years and it is no longer helping reduce your blood pressure. If that is the case, your physician may use several other types of medication in order to help reduce your blood pressure, or he or she may increase the dosage of the enalapril.
Typically, most physicians will add on a diuretic such as Lasix furosemideHCTZ hydrochlorothiazide or Dyazide HCTZ Triamterine. The combination is very effective together in helping to lower the blood pressure.
Ventolin side effects
Alpha-glucosidase Inhibitors: ACE inhibitors may enhance the hypoglycemic effects of insulin or other antidiabetic agents by improving insulin sensitivity. Alprostadil: The concomitant use of systemic alprostadil injection and antihypertensive agents, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors ACE inhibitorsmay cause additive hypotension.
Caution is advised with this combination. Systemic drug interactions with the urethral suppository MUSE or alprostadil intracavernous injection are unlikely in most patients because low or undetectable amounts of the drug are found in the peripheral venous circulation following administration.
In those men with significant corpora cavernosa venous leakage, hypotension might be more likely.
Common Ventolin ide effects may include:
Please remove another drug before adding this one.
If you notice a rapid weight gain with this medication, this may be due to fluid retention and should be brought to your physician's attention.
The angioedema was diagnosed by procedures including abdominal CT scan or ultrasound, or at surgery, and symptoms resolved after stopping the ACE inhibitor.
It is in a class of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme ACE inhibitors.
This was not seen in patients taking Norvasc. Adding indomethacin to either drug caused weight gain, and lowered blood levels of renin. If the patient is also taking an ACE inhibitor, this will cause "blood pressure to go out of control.
In such patients amlodipine may be a better choice than enalapril.
Where can I get more information?
Patients receiving coadministration of ACE inhibitor and mTOR mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor e.
