The following medicines may decrease the breakdown of quetiapine by the liver and so could increase the risk of its side effects.
They should not be used in combination with quetiapine:There may be an increased risk of drowsiness and sedation if quetiapine is taken with any of the following which can also cause drowsiness :Quetiapine may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects of medicines that lower blood pressure, including medicines used to treat high blood pressure antihypertensives and medicines that lower blood pressure as a side effect, eg benzodiazepines.
SEROQUEL quetiapine fumarate is a psychotropic agent belonging to a chemical class, the dibenzothiazepine derivatives. The 25 mg tablets contain red ferric oxide and yellow ferric oxide and the 100 mg tablets contain only yellow ferric oxide. The mechanism of action of SEROQUEL, as with other drugs having efficacy in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, is unknown. Dosage adjustment is therefore not needed in these patients.
In two of the 8 hepatically impaired patients, AUC and Cmax were 3-times higher than those observed typically in healthy subjects. In vitro enzyme inhibition data suggest that quetiapine and 9 of its metabolites would have little inhibitory effect on in vivo metabolism mediated by cytochromes P450 1A2, 2C9, 2C19, 2D6 and 3A4.
Quetiapine oral clearance is increased by the prototype cytochrome P450 3A4 inducer, phenytoin, and decreased by the prototype cytochrome P450 3A4 inhibitor, ketoconazole. Serum measurements in a 1-yr toxicity study showed that quetiapine increased median serum prolactin levels a maximum of 32- and 13-fold in male and female rats, respectively.
The mutagenic potential of quetiapine was tested in six in vitro bacterial gene mutation assays and in an in vitro mammalian gene mutation assay in Chinese Hamster Ovary cells. However, sufficiently high concentrations of quetiapine may not have been used for all tester strains.
Quetiapine caused a dose-related increase in pigment deposition in thyroid gland in rat toxicity studies which were 4 weeks in duration or longer and in a mouse 2 year carcinogenicity study. The appearance of delta-8-cholestanol in plasma is consistent with inhibition of a late stage in cholesterol biosynthesis in these species.
The primary rating instrument used to assess depressive symptoms in these studies was the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale MADRSa 10 item clinician-rated scale with scores ranging from 0 to 60. The efficacy of SEROQUEL in the treatment of acute manic episodes was established in 3 placebo-controlled trials in patients who met DSM-IV criteria for Bipolar I disorder with manic episodes.

Adults: Asymptomatic, transient and reversible elevations in serum transaminases primarily ALT have been reported. These hepatic enzyme elevations usually occurred within the first 3 weeks of drug treatment and promptly returned to pre-study levels with ongoing treatment with SEROQUEL.
There have been literature reports suggesting false positive results in urine enzyme immunoassays for methadone and tricyclic antidepressants in patients who have taken quetiapine. Caution should be exercised in the interpretation of positive urine drug screen results for these drugs, and confirmation by alternative analytical technique e.
In acute monotherapy bipolar mania trials the proportions of patients meeting the criteria for tachycardia was 0.

The investigator established the dosing schedule for each patient depending on the patient's dose when entering the study.
Anemia: Quetiapine may cause low levels of red blood cells.
Before taking Seroquel, tell your doctor if you have a personal or family history of diabetes, high cholesterol, abnormal blood pressure, low white blood cell count, cataracts, seizures, abnormal thyroid, high prolactin levels, heart problems, or liver problems.
Many people wouldn't get this effect and some wouldn't like it if they did but I love it I exercise a lot and get a lot done during the day. When I used to take lithium I had a similar effect but the seroquel really relaxes my mind while energizing my body.
