Robaxin belongs to a group of drugs called muscle relaxants. The exact way it works is unknown, but it seems to exert its effects by acting on the central nervous system, rather than directly relaxing muscle. This medication comes in tablet form. It is usually taken 3 or 4 times daily. There is also an injectable form of Robaxin to be given directly into a vein IV or muscle IM by a healthcare professional. Common side effects of Robaxin include nausea, vomiting, and headache. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

How should I take Robaxin?

Thiethylperazine: Phenothiazines can potentiate the CNS-depressant action of other drugs such as skeletal muscle relaxants. Thiopental: Methocarbamol may cause additive CNS depression if used concomitantly with other CNS depressants such as barbiturates. Thioridazine: Phenothiazines can potentiate the CNS-depressant action of other drugs such as skeletal muscle relaxants. Tramadol: Concomitant use of opiate agonists with skeletal muscle relaxants may cause respiratory depression, hypotension, profound sedation, and death.

Triazolam: Concurrent use of benzodiazepines and other CNS active medications including skeletal muscle relaxants, can potentiate the CNS effects of either agent. Tricyclic antidepressants: Methocarbamol may cause additive CNS depression if used concomitantly with other CNS depressants.

What should I avoid while taking Robaxin?

Phenobarbital: Methocarbamol may cause additive CNS depression if used concomitantly with other CNS depressants such as barbiturates. Phenothiazines: Phenothiazines can potentiate the CNS-depressant action of other drugs such as skeletal muscle relaxants. Physostigmine: The effects of cholinesterase inhibitors may be inhibited by methocarbamol.

Primidone: Methocarbamol may cause additive CNS depression if used concomitantly with other CNS depressants such as barbiturates. Prochlorperazine: Phenothiazines can potentiate the CNS-depressant action of other drugs such as skeletal muscle relaxants.

Promethazine: Methocarbamol may cause additive CNS depression if used concomitantly with other CNS depressants such as promethazine. Pyridostigmine: The effects of cholinesterase inhibitors may be inhibited by methocarbamol. Quazepam: Concurrent use of benzodiazepines and other CNS active medications including skeletal muscle relaxants, can potentiate the CNS effects of either agent.
