What is Rifadin?
This side effect is common, so you should drink plenty of fluids-at least 8 glasses of water-per day. If you are taking Cytoxan intravenously, you may be given mesna Mesnex to prevent these bladder issues. Because Cytoxan targets normal cells within your body in addition to those of the immune system, it increases your risk of cancer. The more Cytoxan you take and the longer you take it, the greater your risk of developing cancer, even later in life. Leukemia and bladder cancer are the most common form of cancer developed in patients taking Cytoxan, so your doctor should perform urine tests regularly.
Cytoxan can interact with certain drugs, so be sure to tell your doctor about any medications you are taking, either prescription or over-the-counter.
The following drugs can interact with Cytoxan: the gout medication allopurinol Aloprim, Zyloprimphenobarbital Solfotonwarfarin Coumadinthiazide diuretics, such as hydrochlorothiazide, and some psychiatric medications. Be sure to notify your doctor if you are taking any of these medications. Chlorambucil Leukeran and nitrogen mustard Mustargen are cytotoxic medications similar to Cytoxan. They have been used in the past to treat lupus symptoms but are not used as commonly as Cytoxan at present.
Leukeran is usually taken by mouth and is commonly used in Europe and developing countries.
Methoxsalen: Methotrexate may increase the photosensitizing effects of photosensitizing agents used for photodynamic therapy. Mipomersen: Caution should be exercised when mipomersen is used with other medications known to have potential for hepatotoxicity, such as methotrexate.
The effect of concomitant administration of mipomersen with other hepatotoxic medications is unknown. Muromonab-CD3: The concomitant use of muromonab and methotrexate may cause additive immunosuppression.
Mycophenolate: Because methotrexate is an immunosuppressant, additive affects may be seen with other immunosuppressives. Nabumetone: In general, NSAID therapy can decrease the clearance of methotrexate, resulting in elevated and prolonged serum methotrexate levels. Naproxen: In general, NSAID therapy can decrease the clearance of methotrexate, resulting in elevated and prolonged serum methotrexate levels. Natalizumab: The concomitant use of natalizumab and immunosuppressives may further increase the risk of infections over the risk observed with use of natalizumab alone.
The safety and efficacy of natalizumab in combination with immunosuppressants has not been evaluated.
Patients receiving chronic immunosuppressant therapy should not ordinarily be treated with natalizumab. Also, natalizumab for Crohn's disease should not be used in combination with methotrexate. Neomycin: Oral neomycin has been shown to inhibit the gastrointestinal absorption of methotrexate. Caution is warranted with concomitant use.

Patients receiving high-dose methotrexate may have a prolonged half-life due to hepatic dysfunction and require additional monitoring and leucovorin therapy. Use caution when administering methotrexate to patients with renal impairment. There are several recommendations available in the published literature for dose adjustment in patients with renal impairment.
It has been suggested that dosage reductions should be made in patients with impaired renal function proportional to the decrease in creatinine clearance. Treatment should be individualized for the patient and the disease being treated. CAUTION: Observe and exercise usual cautions for handling, preparing, administering, and disposing of cytotoxic drugs. The oral formulation of methotrexate is preferred for low-dose therapy.
