What is Reglan?
Metoclopramide is also used in diabetic patients who have poor emptying of their stomachs gastroparesis. Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you start taking metoclopramide and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication by mouth 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime, usually 4 times daily or exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.
If you are using the disintegrating tablet, do not remove the tablet from the blister pack until right before your dose. Dry your hands before using this medication. You do not need to take this product with water. Dosage is based on your weight, medical condition, and response to treatment.

Persistent tardive dyskinesia: Some patients on long term therapy may develop tardive dyskinesia during or after treatment. Elderly patients on high dose therapy appear to be at greatest risk, particularly female elderly patients. The symptoms are persistent and in some patients appear to be irreversible. Rhythmic, involuntary movements of the tongue, face, mouth or jaw is characteristic.
Antiparkinson agents are usually ineffective in alleviating the symptoms. Fine vermicular movements of the tongue may be the first signs of tardive dyskinesia, and if medication is stopped on the appearance of these the syndrome may not develop. Two separate studies have determined that the development of tardive dyskinesia in long-term Reglan users lies between 27 and 29 percent.
The frequency and severity of extrapyramidal reactions may be increased with neuroleptics such as phenothiazines. Studies suggested that Reglan may cause intense restlessness with associated symptoms such as anxiety, agitation, foot-tapping, pacing, inability to sit still, jitteriness, and insomnia.
These symptoms may disappear as your body gets used to Reglan, or if your dosage is reduced. Children and young adults are more prone to develop these symptoms, even after a single dose.
How should I take Reglan?
I didn't think I would ever feel normal again. This medication should not exist if you want to die use it I would defenetly kill you if not instantly with tiime it will!. Never ever take this medication. Finally I was able to talk and said, "get the doctor". I'm an RN and I had no clue this was a side effect. Scared me so bad that the Anestheiologist had to come give me a sedative.
I feel this medication should have a black box warning and should be reevaluated for use of so many different diagnosis. This drug is dangerous.
What should I avoid while taking Reglan?

Reglan side effects
At two pills a day, that totals 1,960 milligrams of Reglan. It also doesn't help that in March of 2009 the FDA issued a statement calling for much stronger warnings on Reglan packaging about this very subject.
It's something that can happen, but lawyers can also profit handsomely from another person's misfortune. They aren't advertising on television out of altruism. Practically speaking, of course it's an issue, knowing that a lawyer would love to swoop in to sue a doctor who prescribes reglan to treat challenging nausea and who develops this uncommon side effect.
It can be a very effective regimen for a problem that people have NOW, vs. I don't think it's appropriate to say that reglan shouldn't be used.

Caution should be exercised when Reglan is administered to a nursing mother.
Treating persistent heartburn can decrease the damage done by stomach acid to the swallowing tube esophagus and help healing.
Parkinsonian-like symptoms have occurred, more commonly within the first 6 months after beginning treatment with metoclopramide, but occasionally after longer periods.
But in 2009, the FDA issued a black box warning, the strongest of its kind, for the drug and its generic forms, stating that the medication had "been linked to tardive dyskinesia.
I instantly began feeling short of breath,and anxious the nurse have me oxygen and that intensified the problem. I hated being alone, I felt trapped and useless until I discontinued taking the drunk. Slowly feeling normal again.

Age-dependant risk Studies have shown, and the FDA has confirmed, that the risk of developing tardive dyskinesia is greater for children including infants than for adults taking Reglan.
