What is Procoralan?
If the Kirby-Bauer method of disc susceptibility is used, a 10 mcg ampicillin disc should be used to determine the relative in vitro susceptibility. The patient should inform the physician of any history of sensitivity to allergens, including previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins and cephalosporins see WARNINGS.
The patient should discontinue ampicillin and contact the physician immediately if any side effect occurs see WARNINGS. Ampicillin should be taken with a full glass 8 oz of water, one-half hour before or two hours after meals.

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to ampicillin or to any other penicillin antibiotic, such as amoxicillin Amoxilcarbenicillin Geocillindicloxacillin Dycill, Dynapenoxacillin Bactocillpenicillin Beepen-VK, Ledercillin VK, Pen-V, Pen-Vee K, Pfizerpen, V-Cillin K, Veetidsand others. Before using ampicillin, tell your doctor if you are allergic to cephalosporins such as Ceclor, Ceftin, Duricef, Keflex, and others, or if you have asthma, kidney disease, a bleeding or blood clotting disorder, mononucleosis also called "mono"or a history of any type of allergy.
Ampicillin can make birth control pills less effective, which may result in pregnancy. Before taking ampicillin, tell your doctor if you use birth control pills. Take this medication for the full prescribed length of time. Ampicillin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. How should I take Procoralan?
Serious anaphylactoid reactions require emergency measures see WARNINGS.
