What is Nizoral Cream?
The benefits of Nizoral last as long as the shampoo is used. It is important to understand that Nizoral shampoo is not a one shot deal for hair growth.
In order to get the maximum benefit from this product you need to use it once every three to four days. The first thing to do when you get in the shower is to gently wash your scalp and get rid of the debris and oil. Then apply the shampoo and gently massage it into the scalp. Let the shampoo soak your scalp for at least 5 minutes and then wash it off. Repeat the cycle again.
Gently dry your hair and avoid use of other cosmetic hair care products.
Although most of these side effects listed below don't happen very often, they could lead to serious problems if you do not check with your doctor or seek medical attention. Signs of an allergic reaction may include itchiness, rash, or swelling of the affected area. Eye concerns: Ketoconazole cream should never be used to treat infections of the eye. If ketoconazole shampoo gets in the eyes, flush the eyes well with clear water for several minutes.
Pregnancy: This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while using this medication, contact your doctor immediately. Breast-feeding: It is not known if ketoconazole passes into breast milk. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are using this medication, it may affect your baby.
Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breast-feeding.
How should I take Nizoral Cream?
Concomitant administration of ketoconazole tablets with carbamazepine may alter the metabolism of one or both of the drugs. Close monitoring for both plasma concentrations of carbamazepine and reduced ketoconazole efficacy is recommended. Concomitant administration of ketoconazole with phenytoin may alter the metabolism of one or both of the drugs. Concomitant administration of rifampin and rifabutin with ketoconazole tablets reduces the blood concentrations of the latter.
INH Isoniazid was also reported to affect ketoconazole concentrations adversely. Concomitant administration of ritonavir with ketoconazole tablets increases was shown to increase the oral bioavailability of ketoconazole.
What should I avoid while taking Nizoral Cream?
Approved Indications: Dandruff or seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to any ingredient. Adverse Effects: Rarely, scalp irritation, itching, oiliness or dryness of the scalp. Directions: Wet hair, massage into scalp for 3-5 minutes then rinse. Dosage: Shampoo into the hair and scalp and leave in contact with the scalp for 3 to 5 minutes then rinse.
Nizoral Cream side effects
Carbamazepine Concomitant administration of ketoconazole tablets with carbamazepine may alter the metabolism of one or both of the drugs. Phenytoin Concomitant administration of ketoconazole with phenytoin may alter the metabolism of one or both of the drugs. Rifampin, rifabutin, isoniazid Concomitant administration of rifampin and rifabutin with ketoconazole tablets reduces the blood concentrations of the latter.
Drugs that significantly increase the systemic exposure to ketoconazole Ritonavir Concomitant administration of ritonavir with ketoconazole tablets increases was shown to increase the oral bioavailability of ketoconazole. Other drug interactions Alcohol Rare cases of a disulfiram-like reaction to alcohol have been reported. Hepatotoxicity Serious hepatotoxicity, including cases with a fatal outcome or requiring liver transplantation, has occurred with the use of oral ketoconazole. QT Prolongation and Drug Interactions Leading to QT Prolongation Ketoconazole can prolong the QT interval.
