What is Minocin?

This drug may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Minocycline may cause live bacterial vaccines such as typhoid vaccine to not work as well. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.

Children younger than 8 years may be more sensitive to the side effects of minocycline, especially tooth discoloration. Tooth discoloration has also occurred in older children and in young adults. Discuss the risks and benefits of this medication with the doctor.

I have been on exclusively generic during my time on AP. I have never been on brand name so I don't know what if that would have been better or not but the generic Watson has been fine for me.

Good luck with your mom. I live in Canada so we have no problem getting brand name Stiefel formerly Lederly. I am just so busy that a lot of things,other than orchids,just skip my mind.

Antibiotic therapy is based on the theory that inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, lupus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, polymyositis, ankylosing spondylitis, etc. In contrast, however, the toxic medications used by rheumatologists today in conventional therapy are prescribed to try and control or suppress symptoms rather than to eradicate the underlying bacterial infection, which is the root cause of the disease process.

These more toxic drugs may or may not be effective. The patients often are left worse than before they ever started the medication. How should I take Minocin?

Check with your doctor if you notice any symptom that worries you while you are taking this medication. Before you begin using a medication, be sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions or allergies you may have, any medications you are taking, whether you are pregnant or breast-feeding, and any other significant facts about your health.

These factors may affect how you should use this medication. Birth control pills: When you use birth control pills at the same time as minocycline, they may be less effective, and you may experience an increased risk of breakthrough bleeding.

Your doctor may advise that you use a second form of birth control while taking this medication. Diarrhea: Minocycline may infrequently cause a condition called pseudomembranous colitis serious diarrhea caused by antibiotics.

What should I avoid while taking Minocin?

I had no depression on it, in fact my moods were constantly low on minocin. This is probably because antibiotics are bad for your general health. Has to be said I was going through puberty at the time so i could have had the same moods without any treatments. The thing about Roaccutane was that I could see the effects after about 6 weeks, which really put me in a good mood. It was like i was on a placebo. I had no stomach problems like others have described. My acne isnt bad enough to warrent Roaccutane and I was put off using it because of the monthly liver function tests and possible side effects.

Minocin side effects

Caution is advised in patients with myasthenia gravis as tetracyclines can cause weak neuromuscular blockade. Cross-resistance between tetracyclines may develop in micro-organisms and cross-sensitisation in patients.

Patients taking oral contraceptives should be warned that if diarrhoea or breakthrough bleeding occur there is a possibility of contraceptive failure.

Minocycline may cause hyperpigmentation at various body sites see administration and side effects. Hyperpigmentation may present regardless of dose or duration of therapy but develops more commonly during long term treatment. Patients should be advised to report any unusual pigmentation without delay and Minocin should be discontinued. If photosensitivity reaction occurs, patients should be warned to avoid direct exposure to natural or artificial light and to discontinue therapy at the first sign of skin discomfort.

As with other tetracyclines, bulging fontanelles in infants and benign intracranial hypertension in juveniles and adults have been reported.

Common Minocin ide effects may include:

  • Clinically, the effect appears like an exaggerated sunburn reaction.

  • The Minocin MR brand of minocycline is used to treat acne.

  • Minocycline should not be administered orally with calcium or calcium-containing medications because they may inhibit oral absorption of the antibiotic.

  • Warfarin: Tetracyclines may increase the action of warfarin and other oral anticoagulants by either impairing prothrombin utilization or, possibly, decreasing production of vitamin K because of its antiinfective action on gut bacteria.
