Why is this medication prescribed.

Neonates exposed to Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets and other SSRIs or SNRIs late in the third trimester have developed complications requiring prolonged hospitalization, respiratory support, and tube feeding and may be at risk for persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn PPHN.

When treating pregnant women with Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets during the third trimester, the physician should carefully consider the potential risks and benefits of treatment. At least 14 days should elapse between discontinuation of an MAOI intended to treat psychiatric disorders and initiation of therapy with Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets.

Do not start Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets in a patient who is being treated with linezolid or intravenous methylene blue because there is an increased risk of serotonin syndrome. In some cases, a patient already receiving Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets therapy may require urgent treatment with linezolid or intravenous methylene blue. If acceptable alternatives to linezolid or intravenous methylene blue treatment are not available and the potential benefits of linezolid or intravenous methylene blue treatment are judged to outweigh the risks of serotonin syndrome in a particular patient, Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets should be stopped promptly, and linezolid or intravenous methylene blue can be administered.

The patient should be monitored for symptoms of serotonin syndrome for two weeks or until 24 hours after the last dose of linezolid or intravenous methylene blue, whichever comes first. It is generally agreed that obsessive compulsive disorder requires several months or longer of sustained pharmacologic therapy.

The physician who elects to use Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets for extended periods should periodically re-evaluate the long-term usefulness of the drug for the individual patient. Symptoms associated with discontinuation of other SSRIs or SNRIs have been reported. Patients should be monitored for these symptoms when discontinuing treatment. A gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible.

If intolerable symptoms occur following a decrease in the dose or upon discontinuation of treatment, then resuming the previously prescribed dose may be considered.

Fluvoxamine is a generic drug, found primarily under the brand name Luvox, which is prescribed to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Occasionally, it is prescribed off label to treat panic disorders, social phobias, depression, and eating disorders. This antidepressant is in the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors SSRIs. As an SSRI, fluvoxamine increases the amount of serotonin the brain releases and reduces how fast neurotransmitter receptors uptake the chemical. When there is more serotonin present in the brain, mood stabilizes, and the person feels less depressed.

Luvox was originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration FDA in 1994.

Luvox side effects

He asked me if it felt like i had two brains, and if he asked me that specific question, he must have had previous patients who have had the same side effects. Alot of times, i could not think rationally and did have some disturbing thoughts, paranoia, lack of trust, and the feeling of a lack of self control and the feeling of a "runaway brain".

It taught me that life is short, don't sweat the bad stuff as although we go through difficult times in our lives, things will eventually improve and get better without drugs such as these. Counselling is the best way of dealing with issues, you CAN control the way you think, you can end bad thoughts, it takes alot of self-reassuring. You are ok, you are not that bad, there are other people out there like you that get along fine without anti depressants.
