What is Generic Luvox?
Luvox is one of these medications: its actions on neurotransmitters seem to target anxiety. Although Luvox is an SSRI, it is has received FDA approval for use in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder OCD in both adults and children. Sometimes this medication is used in combination with other psychiatric medications, but care should be taken in combining any other medication with Luvox as medication interactions with this drug are common.
Luvox is also prescribed for major depressive disorder MDDalthough other SSRIs are more commonly tried first. All SSRIs now carry a warning regarding increased risk of suicide. While Luvox is not specifically linked to reports of suicide, all antidepressant medications of this class are now labeled with the warning. Luvox can be mildly sedating and may intensify the effects of alcohol, thus impairing judgment and cognitive functions, as well as motor functions.
Follow all instructions regarding driving or operating machinery, and ask your doctor or pharmacist about any potential drug interactions in advance.
More common drug interactions that patients taking Luvox and other SSRIs should be aware of include any medications that would increase serotonin levels such as Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Wellbutrin, and Celexaany medications that increase drowsiness or depress CNS activity such as antihistamines, tranquilizers, sleep aids, or antipsychoticsand any medications that may increase bleeding these include Coumadin, other blood thinners, and all the NSAID analgesics such as ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin, etc.
