Indometacin's role in treating certain headaches is unique compared to other NSAIDs. In addition to the class effect of COX inhibition, there is evidence that indometacin has the ability to alter cerebral blood flow not only through modulation of nitric oxide pathways but also via intracranial precapillary vasoconstriction.
People who take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs other than aspirin such as indomethacin may have a higher risk of having a heart attack or a stroke than people who do not take these medications.
These events may happen without warning and may cause death. This risk may be higher for people who take NSAIDs for a long time. Do not take an NSAID such as indomethacin if you have recently had a heart attack, unless directed to do so by your doctor. Tell your doctor if you or anyone in your family has or has ever had heart disease, a heart attack, or a stroke, if you smoke, and if you have or have ever had high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or diabetes.
What should I avoid while taking Generic Indocin?
You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit the FDA MedWatch website or call 1-800-FDA-1088. Clinical trials of several COX-2 selective and nonselective NSAIDs of up to three years duration have shown an increased risk of serious cardiovascular CV thrombotic events, including myocardial infarction MI and stroke, which can be fatal.
Based on available data, it is unclear that the risk for CV thrombotic events is similar for all NSAIDs. The relative increase in serious CV thrombotic events over baseline conferred by NSAID use appears to be similar in those with and without known CV disease or risk factors for CV disease. However, patients with known CV disease or risk factors had a higher absolute incidence of excess serious CV thrombotic events, due to their increased baseline rate.
Some observational studies found that this increased risk of serious CV thrombotic events began as early as the first weeks of treatment.

Whereas INDO therapy in IRHs is generally characterised by relatively low dosages, this recent series clearly takes us into the domain of high-dosage INDO. This allows the general, non-specific, analgesic effect of INDO to be brought into focus. This effect is characterised by relatively high INDO dosages, slower onset of effect and lack of complete effect.
