What is Imodium?
This helps to restore the absorption of fluids into your body. Dosage:Short-term diarrhoea:Adults and children over 12 years: Take 2 tablets to start treatment.
Take 1 tablet after each loose bowel movement, up to a maximum of 6 tablets per day. If your diarrhoea lasts for more than 48 hours, consult your doctor. IBS diarrhoea, previously diagnosed by a doctor:Adults aged 18 years and over: Take 2 tablets to start treatment. Take 1 tablet after each loose bowel movement, or as previously advised by a doctor, up to a maximum of 6 tablets per day. You can use this medicine for up to 2 weeks for repeated attacks, but do not take for any one attack lasting longer than 48 hours.

However, now word is spreading about how dangerous this drug can be in high doses.
Imodium, even the generic, can be quite pricey for someone without a lot of money to be spending all the time but the relief it gives is worth the price. Before I go out anywhere other than work I take two or more pills, just to prevent something from happening, especially if I am going out to dinner. I do notice though that the amount of time the pills take to work has increased because I have been taking it for 11 years, and it doesn't have quite the same effect - an attack might happen a few hours after I've taken the pills but they work better than having nothing.
Otherwise at work I have to time my bathroom trips to when I know no-one is in the bathroom, as well as sneak some spray in to take away the odor. It is horrible that you have to plan out your trips to the bathroom more than once daily just to make sure no one hears you.
I am suffering less now than I was when I was younger, but this is an extremely unpleasant and embarrassing disorder to have. To this day I am too embarrassed to tell anyone about this. The only people who know are my family and my doctor. No-one quite understands how it is and like it has been said before people just think it's all in your head.
I started taking Imodium every day to help with the diarrhea. Of course at that age it was very embarrassing.
How should I take Imodium?
Loperamide should not be given to children under 6 years of age without medical prescription and supervision. Loperamide tablets are not suitable for children under 6 years of age. What should I avoid while taking Imodium?
The warning applies to both over-the-counter and prescription strength medications, which are also sold under other generic names. If any of these occur, 911 should be contacted immediately to get medical attention. Forty-eight cases of serious heart problems associated with Imodium have been reported to the FDA between 1976, when it was approved, and last year.
More than half of them occurred after 2010. This includes 10 reported deaths. However, the agency believes the actual number of cases is higher because not all incidents are reported to the FDA.

The usual adult dose is two IMODIUM capsules or caplets or Melts initially, followed by one capsule or caplet or Melt after each loose unformed stool as needed.
Reporting suspected adverse reactions after authorisation of the medicinal product is important.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including medicines you can buy without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.
Lower doses had no effects on maternal or foetal health and did not affect peri- and post-natal development.
Many drugs besides loperamide may affect the heart rhythm QT prolongationincluding amiodarone, chlorpromazine, haloperidol, methadone, moxifloxacin, pentamidine, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol, thioridazine, ziprasidone, among others.
