How should I take Glucotrol?

Daca sunteti in tratament cu insulina si glicemia este mentinuta la nivelul corespunzator, medicul dumneavoastra va poate recomanda continuarea tratamentului cu medicamente antidiabetice orale, inclusiv cu Glucotrol XL. What should I avoid while taking Glucotrol?

The drug should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes mellitus. Temporary use of insulin in place of oral agents may be necessary during periods of physiologic stress e.

Stress can induce alterations in glucose regulation that can be controlled only with exogenously administered insulin. In addition, conditions that predispose patients to developing hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia may alter antidiabetic agent efficacy. Conditions associated with hypoglycemia include debilitated physical condition, drug interactions, malnutrition, uncontrolled adrenal insufficiency, pituitary insufficiency, or hypothyroidism.

Glucotrol side effects

Be cautious with alcohol intake while on glipizide as alcohol can cause hypoglycemia in people taking glipizide.

When patients on Glucotrol are sick with infection or surgery, or other sickness that causes reduced activity, Glucotrol may temporarily lose its ability to control blood glucose. In such instance, subcutaneous insulin may be used until the sickness resolves. Be aware of possibility of secondary failure, which is when the drug stops working after some years of effective use. Use with caution in patients with Glucose-6-Phosphate dehydrogenase G6PD deficiency, because of risk of hemolytic anemia in this population of patientsGlucotrol should not be used in pregnant women.

Common Glucotrol ide effects may include:

  • Sugar sources include fruit juice, hard candy, crackers, raisins, and non-diet soda.

  • Both control blood sugar levels effectively but metformin causes more of stomach upset, like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and bloating while gliclazide causes low blood sugar levels and weight gain.

  • Fasting insulin levels are not elevated even on long-term GLUCOTROL administration, but the postprandial insulin response continues to be enhanced after at least 6 months of treatment.

  • Some patients may experience hypoglycemia.
