Generic Name: Generic glucophage xr

What is Generic Glucophage Xr?

This is the basic fuel for the cells in the body. The body needs Insulin to be able to use this sugar for energy. Insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. This causes glucose to build up in the blood instead of going into cells. It can lead to serious diabetes complications. Glucophage belongs to a group of medications called Biguanides. They work by decreasing the amount of sugar produced by the liver and increasing the amount of sugar absorbed by muscle cells.

As a result you get more sugar in the cells and less is in the blood. This medication comes as a tablet. There are not enough studies about this medication in pregnant women.

Now, no oral meds for me for Diabetes, I take strictly 2 insulin injections. One is Novolog, which is a fast acting medication and Tresiba, a slow acting medication.

But now I am going to see my doctor and complain about the Tresiba because it is bothering my hands with numbness and my feet have been numb for years so I am very careful.

The good part is it's supposed to help a bit with insulin resistance - what causes type 2 diabetes. The bad part it was taken off the market from 1977 to 1994, I believe. What you need to understand is it raises your insulin levels, like most diabetes drugs. If your insulin levels are low, this is good. If you have high insulin levels already, which is the case with most type 2, this could eventualy lead to atherosclerosis and eventually kill you. Doctors are usually not concerned with high insulin levels, but they should be.

My insulin went from 16.
