What is Diovan Hct?
What should my health care professional know before I take valsartan-hydrochlorothiazide. Valsartan-hydrochlorothiazide can be taken with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. What if I miss a dose. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose.
Do not take double or extra doses. What other medicines can interact with valsartan-hydrochlorothiazide. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs.

Valsartan an angiotensin receptor blocker lowers blood pressure by making blood vessels relax. Hydrochlorothiazide a diuretic or water pill lowers blood pressure and swelling by removing extra fluid from your body. It can take time for a drug to start working, or for some side effects to go away.
The placebo bar shows how common a side effect was for people taking a sugar pill instead of Diovan HCT. If you are pregnant or considering having a baby, talk to your doctor about alternative medicines.

How should I take Diovan Hct?
Who should not take DIOVAN HCT. Do not take DIOVAN HCT if you: are allergic to any of the ingredients in DIOVAN HCT.

Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions including if you: are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. DIOVAN HCT passes into breast milk. You should choose either to take DIOVAN HCT or breastfeed, but not both. Angioedema causes swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat and may cause difficulty breathing.
What should I avoid while taking Diovan Hct?
Triamterene: Potassium-sparing diuretics, such as triamterene, should be used with caution in patients taking drugs that may increase serum potassium levels such as angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Trihexyphenidyl: Coadministration of thiazides and antimuscarinics e. Trospium: Diuretics can increase urinary frequency, which may aggravate bladder symptoms. Tubocurarine: Concomitant administration of hydrochlorothiazide to patients receiving nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockers e.
Valdecoxib: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs may reduce the natriuretic effect of diuretics in some patients.
Vecuronium: Concomitant administration of hydrochlorothiazide to patients receiving nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockers e.
Diovan Hct side effects
Hydrochlorothiazide may alter glucose tolerance and raise serum levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. Hydrochlorothiazide may raise the serum uric acid level due to reduced clearance of uric acid and may cause or exacerbate hyperuricemia and precipitate gout in susceptible patients. Hydrochlorothiazide decreases urinary calcium excretion and may cause elevations of serum calcium.
Monitor calcium levels in patients with hypercalcemia receiving Diovan HCT. Pregnancy: Female patients of childbearing age should be told about the consequences of exposure to Diovan HCT during pregnancy.
Common Diovan Hct ide effects may include:
Pentoxifylline: Pentoxifylline has been used concurrently with antihypertensive drugs beta blockers, diuretics without observed problems.
QL Quantity Limits Drugs that have quantity limits associated with each prescription.
Also, patients with a history of sulfonamide hypersensitivity or penicillin hypersensitivity who receive hydrochlorothiazide may also be at increased risk for the development of an idiosyncratic reaction resulting in transient myopia and acute angle-closure glaucoma.
Therapy with any combination of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide will be associated with both sets of dose-independent side effects.
Initially, diuretics lower blood pressure by decreasing cardiac output, plasma volume and extracellular fluid volume. Cardiac output eventually returns to normal, plasma and extracellular fluid values return to slightly less than normal, but peripheral vascular resistance is reduced, resulting in lower blood pressure. Valsartan: Valsartan antagonizes angiotensin II at the AT1 receptor subtype.
Two angiotensin II receptors, AT1 and AT2, have been identified.
