What is Desogen?

If you start on the first day of your period, you do not need to use back-up birth control the first week. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about how to switch from other forms of hormonal birth control such as patch, other birth control pills to Desogen.

If any information is unclear, consult the Patient Information Leaflet or your doctor or pharmacist. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. If you miss 2 periods in a row or 1 period if the pill has not been used properlycontact your doctor for a pregnancy test. Remember that your doctor has prescribed Desogen because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.

Many people using Desogen do not have serious side effects. Desogen may raise your blood pressure. Check your blood pressure regularly and tell your doctor if the results are high.

It is tempting to use a urine pregnancy test, but these are very unreliable. It is somewhat common that a patient will call with a negative result with a urine pregnancy test, and she will then have a positive blood result. This varies on an individual basis, please ask your doctor or IVF nurse when you may cycle again.

The good and bad news is that there is nothing you can do beyond normal pregnancy precautions to ensure the health of your embryo. Continue taking your IVF meds and prenatal vitamins as you have been, but there is nothing additionally that you can do to help your embryo develop.

Desogen side effects

The progestin used is desogestrel and the estrogen used is ethinyl estradiol. This medicine stops women from getting pregnant by blocking the release and maturation of eggs from their ovaries.

This birth control pill is named as Desogen as it comes in pack of 28 tablets. The doses for first three weeks are those with active ingredients, whereas the last seven tablets have no hormones. This pill can be taken with meal or in empty stomach.

All pills of the pack should be taken on a regular basis in order achieve best effects. There are possibilities of miscarriage if a pregnant lady consumes this drug. But studies proof that Desogen is not so much harmful if it is taken accidentally during the primary stage of pregnancy.

Common Desogen ide effects may include:

  • Ethinyl estradiol, escaping gut wall conjugation, undergoes phase I metabolism and hepatic conjugation phase II metabolism.

  • An alternate or additional form of contraception should be used during concomitant treatment.

It may be that women taking the pill are examined more often, so that breast cancer is more likely to be detected. You should have regular breast examinations by a healthcare provider and examine your own breasts monthly.
