Generic Name: Generic casodex
What is Generic Casodex?
My doctors are still "puzzled" in their words as to why I am still listed as cancer free, because of where I started out at a PSA of 69 and being a Stage 4. He is very involved with the relationship between Prostate Cancer and Melanoma. My doctors are all in contact with each other on a regular basis.
I am now, only going to Radiation Oncology for a check up at a once a year basis, and I only go to Chemo Oncology every 6 months. With your explanation, the treatment that you were offered makes a lot of sense. I was sorry to read that you also have to deal with a recurrence of the melanoma.
That's a very heavy cross to bear. I am going off on a limb now, but the immunotherapy to combat melanoma Ipilimumab is also being tried. I don't know if any studies have been published as yet to see if 'Ipi' is effective towards prostate cancer, but it may be something to mention to your team of doctors if the melanoma spreads.
I obviously hope that that won't be the case. In the meantime, it is great that the Lupron treatment did knock the prostate cancer down to almost nil.
There was no statistical evidence that the growth rate was reduced during treatment. Table 2 shows descriptive data for growth rates for the overall population and for subgroups defined by history of previous treatment for testotoxicosis with ketoconazole, spironolactone, anastrozole or other aromatase inhibitors. Of the 14 patients exposed to study treatment, 13 92.
Headache was the only adverse reaction considered possibly related to anastrazole by investigators. In two studies in patients given 50 or 150 mg daily, no significant relationship between age and steady-state levels of total bicalutamide or the active R-enantiomer has been shown.
CASODEX bicalutamide should be used with caution in patients with moderate-to-severe hepatic impairment. CASODEX bicalutamide is extensively metabolized by the liver. Limited data in subjects with severe hepatic impairment suggest that excretion of CASODEX bicalutamide may be delayed and could lead to further accumulation.
No clinically significant difference in the pharmacokinetics of either enantiomer of bicalutamide was noted in patients with mild-to-moderate hepatic disease as compared to healthy controls. Renal impairment as measured by creatinine clearance had no significant effect on the elimination of total bicalutamide or the active R-enantiomer. Long-term clinical trials have been conducted with dosages up to 200 mg of CASODEX bicalutamide daily and these dosages have been well tolerated.
A single dose of CASODEX bicalutamide that results in symptoms of an overdose considered to be life threatening has not been established. In the management of an overdose with CASODEX bicalutamidevomiting may be induced if the patient is alert.
It should be remembered that, in this patient population, multiple drugs may have been taken.
How should I take Generic Casodex?
Bicalutamide works by blocking testosterone receptors on the prostate cells, and therefore preventing testosterone from attaching to the receptors on the surface of the prostate cancer cells. Without testosterone, the cancer cells may either grow more slowly, or stop growing altogether. Do not take two doses at the same time. Bicalutamide may be given in combination with other medications, such as LHRH agonists. Store this medication at room temperature, in the original container.
Bicalultamide is available through retail, mail order, and specialty pharmacies. This medication may be covered under your prescription drug plan. This medication may also be available at a low cost through Rx Outreach for those who meet financial qualifications.
What should I avoid while taking Generic Casodex?
Nefazodone: Bicalutamide is metabolized by cytochrome CYP3A4. Substances that are inhibitors of CYP3A4 activity, like nefazodone, decrease the metabolism of bicalutamide and increase bicalutamide concentrations. Nevirapine: Bicalutamide is metabolized by CYP3A4. Drugs that are potent inducers of CYP3A4 activity, like nevirapine, will decrease the plasma concentrations of bicalutamide. Oxcarbazepine: Bicalutamide is metabolized by CYP3A4. Drugs that are inducers of CYP3A4 activity, like oxcarbazepine, will decrease the plasma concentrations of bicalutamide.
Phenytoin: Bicalutamide is metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A4.
