Bactrim is used to treat bacterial infections such as bronichitis, gastointestinal tract infections, renal infections, and skin and wound infections. Bactrim is marketed by Roche Pharmaceuticals in the United States. Unfortunately, although Bactrim is a rather effective antibiotice, it has some extremely serious side effects. The most serious of the Bactrim side effects are Stevens-Johnson Syndrome SJS and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis TEN.
These conditions, of which TEN is the more serious, cause severe rashes and the disconnection of skin layer. Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis can be fatal if not treated at an early enough stage.
How should I take Betadine?
BACTRIM DS tablets and BACTRIM oral suspension contain the active ingredients trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. Alert your doctor if you believe you are taking any medications listed under Major Interactions as these result in potentially life threatening side effects.
In addition to drug interactions, there are certain foods that will interact with Bactrim, and should be avoided during use. Consuming ethanol with Bactrim may increase the risk of certain side effects. While avoiding ethanol altogether is optimal, if that is not possible, your doctor may give you special instructions for the use of this medicine.
Deep insights from health data. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. To do so may increase the chance of side effects.
What should I avoid while taking Betadine?
Bactrim is the brand name of a formulation containing sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Other brand names for similar formulations include Cotrim, Septra, Sulfamethoprim, Sulfatrim, and TMP-SMZ. The following information applies to all of these formulations. Certain people should not take Bactrim, including people with folic-acid deficiency, infants under age 2 months, and nursing mothers.
Earlier in the pregnancy, Bactrim's effect on folic acid - needed for normal development in the fetus - may cause it to be contraindicated. People who are allergic to certain drugs - sulfa drugs, diabetes drugs, and thiazide diuretics - should not take Bactrim because of the chance of a potentially fatal allergic reaction.

Time and again visitors to this site say that they or their doctors didn't know that the drug was notorious for causing sometimes serious adverse reactionsOn the left is an Australian brand of Resprim Forte, from Alphapharm, and below is a generic sulfamethoxazole - trimethoprim label for a US product by Qualitest. Both are "double strength" or "Forte" formulations, containing 800mg of sulfamethoxazole and 160mg of trimethoprim.
All of the products at this link are the same medicine, but with these seemingly countless different identitiesA doctor writes: Having prescribed a needlessly-dangerous pharmaceutical for most of their professional careers, many family doctors were outraged by the challenge over Bactrim - Septrin - Septra. Some felt their patients were alarmed unfairly by Deer's reports which stressed side-effects, rather than typical experiences.
A number couldn't believe what they were readingHard sell: The Bactrim - Septrin - Septra - SMZ-TMP investigation sprang from Brian Deer's inquiries for The Sunday Times into the extraordinary Wellcome organization, a part-drug-company-part-charity, which was broken up after the campaign. Here's also a memo on Henry Wellcome, the American-born founder who was one of the architects of the modern pharmaceutical industryLeft is a picture of the late American researcher and Nobel laureate George Hitchings, who invented a string of drugs for the Burroughs-Wellcome company, including trimethoprim, one of the ingredients in Bactrim-Septra.

Winston DJ, Lau WK, Gale RP, Young LS. Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole for the Treatment of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Distributed by: Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Inc. Revised: Mar 2017Because clinical trials are conducted under widely varying conditions, adverse reaction rates observed in the clinical trials of a drug cannot be directly compared to rates in the clinical trials of another drug and may not reflect the rates observed in practice.
Because these reactions were reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure:Trimethoprim is an inhibitor of CYP2C8 as well as OCT2 transporter.
