Clinical signs, such as rash, sore throat, fever, arthralgia, pallor, purpura or jaundice may be early indications of serious reactions. Thrombocytopenia has been reported with both sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim usage.
Thrombocytopenia caused by sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim may be immune-mediated. Typically, a patient with immune thrombocytopenia will have taken drug for about 1 week or intermittently over a longer period of time possibly years before presenting with petechiae or bruising.
If BACTRIM is not stopped, there is a risk of fatal hemorrhage.

Bactroban side effects
If your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse, call your doctor. Take co-trimoxazole until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better.
Do not stop taking co-trimoxazole without talking to your doctor. If you stop taking co-trimoxazole too soon or skip doses, your infection may not be completely treated and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it.

Urinary Tract Infections BACTRIM is indicated in the treatment of severe or complicated urinary tract infections in adults and pediatric patients two months of age and older due to susceptible strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Morganella morganii and Proteus species when oral administration of BACTRIM is not feasible and when the organism is not susceptible to single-agent antibacterials effective in the urinary tract.
Trimethoprim Sulphamethoxazole drug is highly prescribed by doctor for the treatment of medical complications ranging from urinary tract infection, skin infection or dermatitis, respiratory tract infection, cholera, diarrhoea, pneumonia, gastrointestinal infection, renal irritation, septicaemias, and HIV AIDS.
In vitro studies suggest that trimethoprim is a substrate of P-glycoprotein, OCT1 and OCT2, and that sulfamethoxazole is not a substrate of P-glycoprotein.
Since there has been no extensive experience in humans with single doses of BACTRIM in excess of 25 mL 400 mg trimethoprim and 2000 mg sulfamethoxazolethe maximum tolerated dose in humans is unknown. Signs and symptoms of overdosage reported with sulfonamides include anorexia, colic, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, drowsiness and unconsciousness.
Pyrexia, hematuria and crystalluria may be noted.
