Aczone

Generic Name: Aczone

What is Aczone?

The decision whether to continue the patient on therapy with pioglitazone should be guided by clinical judgement pending laboratory evaluations. Part of the treatment of diabetes is dietary control. Patients should be advised to adhere strictly to a calorie-controlled diet. HypoglycaemiaAs a consequence of increased insulin sensitivity, patients receiving pioglitazone in dual or triple oral therapy with a sulphonylurea or in dual therapy with insulin may be at risk for dose-related hypoglycaemia, and a reduction in the dose of the sulphonylurea or insulin may be necessary.

Eye disordersPost-marketing reports of new-onset or worsening diabetic macular oedema with decreased visual acuity have been reported with thiazolidinediones, including pioglitazone.

Many of these patients reported concurrent peripheral oedema. OthersAn increased incidence in bone fractures in women was seen in a pooled analysis of adverse reactions of bone fracture from randomised, controlled, double blind clinical trials in over 8100 pioglitazone and 7400 comparator treated patients, on treatment for up to 3.

The observed excess risk of fractures for women in this dataset on pioglitazone is therefore 0. Some epidemiological studies have suggested a similarly increased risk of fracture in both men and women.

The risk of fractures should be considered in the long term care of patients treated with pioglitazone see section 4. As a consequence of enhancing insulin action, pioglitazone treatment in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome may result in resumption of ovulation.

I do not believe I caused one heart attack or heart failure. I have seen a few cases of edema which was usually managed by adjusting existing blood pressure medications. It's not because they haven't tried diet and exercise, and not because their doctor hasn't suggested it. It's because losing weight in our country is extremely difficult.

We are talking about using pharmacotherapy for patients with pre-diabetes. Insulin is not an option. Patients who are pre-diabetic have high levels of insulin. Insulin, because of it's risk of hypoglycemia should be reserved for patients with progressive diabetes that can not be controlled with medications. As mentioned in my post, metformin does have evidence that it can prevent diabetes.

In fact, the ADA recommends metformin for pre-diabetes. It does not recommend Actos.

How should I take Aczone?

You may experience blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness due to extremely low or high blood sugar. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness or clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely.

Limit alcohol while taking this medication because it can increase the risk of developing low blood sugar. It may be harder to control your blood sugar when your body is stressed such as due to fever, infection, injury, or surgery. Consult your doctor because increased stress may require a change in your treatment plan, medications, or blood sugar testing.
